How We Serve

At Wilshire Boulevard Temple, we create space for people to connect, deeply and personally, to Jewish wisdom, tradition, and one another. With open hearts and open doors, we invite discovery, celebrate identity, and help each person find their place in a story that continues to grow.

A Living Legacy

Our Past

Wilshire Boulevard Temple was founded in 1862 as Congregation B’nai B’rith, the first synagogue in Los Angeles. From living rooms to landmark sanctuaries, we’ve grown into one of the most influential Jewish congregations in the country.

Today, we continue to honor our past while actively shaping the future of Jewish life through deep learning, dynamic programming, and the enduring bonds of community.

Leading the Way, Together

Our Future

Our vision is to be a spiritual, cultural, and communal home that evolves alongside the people it serves, guiding generations with care, curiosity, and courage.

From Los Angeles to the world, we strive to be a source of innovation, influence, and connection in Jewish life, building a future shaped by meaning, belonging, and bold hope.

Guided by Values

Jewish values are at the heart of everything we do, shaping how we learn, how we celebrate, and how we care for one another. They give our community meaning, depth, and a sense of belonging that carries from generation to generation. At Wilshire Boulevard Temple, these values are rooted in three enduring foundations:

  • Torah (Learning): Inspiring curiosity, discovery, and a lifelong love of learning.
  • Avodah (Prayer): Creating sacred moments that connect us to something larger than ourselves.
  • G’milut Chasadim (Acts of Loving-Kindness): Bringing compassion into action, caring for one another and the world around us.

Together, they weave through daily life at the Temple, guiding our choices and enriching experiences for everyone.
