The beach environment that needs constant care, the homeless yearning for transformation to independence, the hungry unable to feed their family; these are but a few of the many areas in which Wilshire Boulevard Temple’s congregants come together to create a culture where tikkun olam is not a special event, but an everyday part of our communal life.
Every year the Tikkun Olam Committee looks for opportunities that not only are meaningful and inspiring for the congregation, but most importantly, make a difference in the community and the world in which we live.
Join us in the Mitzvah to help heal the world through domestic programming recognized as one of the nation's best by the Religious Action Center and for our international efforts by the World Union for Progressive Judaism.
HOMELESSNESS - MAKE LOS ANGELES A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE
It’s the most American tikkun olam we can do: stand up and be counted in the democratic process, join other like-minded citizens across the city, and marvel as “the power of the people” create change! We helped in brokering deals to secure stimulus funding to spread successful math programs through LAUSD, expand a pilot program bringing banks, mortgage brokers, and home-owners together to stem the tide of foreclosures, and create additional job-training opportunities for those needing work or looking for new career paths. What will we focus on this year? It’s all up to you—let your voice be heard!
After over 100 congregants spoke up, the message was clear: we have to help alleviate homelessness in our city. SIGN UP FOR A CHANGE: Click Here, leave us your name, phone number, and email address, and we will contact you. Every voice is valued and you CAN make a difference in one of Los Angeles' greatest challenges - speak up and be heard!
TWO food pantries allow you and your family to do a great mitzvah while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow congregants. There’s no better way to do that “Tikkun Olam Project,” fulfill community service requirements, or just be a mensch for everyone, ages 5-95.
Every Sunday:
TEMPLE CAMPUS Food Pantry: Davidson Patio 8:15 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
SANTA MONICA at OPCC*: 9:15 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
